Evaluate the UX of the BBC Civilisations mobile AR app with real users & establish a set of best practice UX guidelines for future AR experiences.
Lab testing with 20 target users. Lab was set up with multiple cameras to capture full experience. Generalisation of findings to create a set of re-usable AR design guidelines.
Presentation of findings to BBC XR team & stakeholders. A docuemnted set of UX guidelines for subsequent BBC AR apps.
Testing the App's AR features in a range of natural contexts. Research participants were asked to use the app naturally for 1 week and keep a diary of their experience.
Outcome: A set of key findings about mobile AR context of use & real-world limitations, which fed directly into the AR guidelines work.
A lab was set up with the BBC with multiple camera angles to capture all on-screen & device interactions, as well as the user's physical movements. 20 taget users took part in 1-to-1 UX testing sessions, evaluating the full set of features within the app.
Outcome: Rich data & insights on the end-to-end usability & experience of the Civilisations AR app..
A set of 90+ UX guidelines for designing great mobile AR experiences within the BBC AR app framework. This includes specific sections on: First-Time User Features, Finding Surfaces, Exploring Objects, AR Menu Navigation, AR Access Needs & General AR User Needs.
Outcome: A set of re-usable design guidlelines for BBC AR teams to use in the production of subsequent AR apps.
